After a many-month hiatus, House of Black is back!
The new site is more than just a fresh coat of paint, however. First, we’ve done away with the rooms/places (Parlor, Drawing Room, Quote Farm, and Junk Drawer) and now have just one main page that comprises everything. Over time, content that would have gone in these other rooms has found different homes on the web: Brady’s art is now at his artist site and Facebook page, and Junk-Drawer-type posts are now posted at my blog,
And with so much of our lives being present elsewhere on the web, we were left pondering the purpose of the House of Black site. Who is it for? What do we put on it? Is it worth trying to keep up with it?
Ultimately, we decided to change House of Black to a Tumblr format blog, just meaning that we can post little itty bits of things – a single photograph, a quote from a book or a friend, a video – without having to compose longer posts all the time.
This will (hopefully) encourage us to more share things, more often. We’re viewing it at as a personal scrapbook we’re inviting others to view. It’s bound to be a lot more random and a lot more personal than the old format. You’ll likely love it ten times more, or quickly grow tired of our dumb jokes and quips.
All around, it was time for a facelift, and we’re excited House of Black has returned to Grimmauld Place.
Here are a few things to note:
- See those tabs hanging off on the left-hand side of posts? Those are “post type” indicators. They’re a visual cue reflecting what’s in the post; there’s a camera for photos, quotation marks for quotes, “P” for traditional blog posts, that sort of thing.
- Clicking on the “post type” tab will take you to where that post is displayed on a single page (so you can comment if you want)
- If you’d like to subscribe in RSS, here’s the feed link. (Not sure what that’s about? Here’s an explanation.)
We’re looking forward to sharing more of our life in smaller chunks. Hope you enjoy it, too!
Love,
a&b
